How to use remote start in equipped Acura models
When the weather cools off, the worst part about going to work in the morning is no longer rolling out of bed. It’s starting your car. This is especially true if you drive a premium model with leather seating surfaces. It’s a high-quality option, but it tends to hold in the heat and cold. This is where remote engine start comes in. When the weather is cold, your Acura can idle and warm up before you head out the door. When it’s blistering outside, your a/c will start up and cool things down. So how do you use remote start in Acura models, and which vehicles have it equipped?
If you haven’t already selected an Acura model, you might be wondering which vehicles offer remote engine start as a factory-installed option. Here are your options:
- 2018 Acura RDX with Advance Package
- 2018 Acura TLX with Advance Package
- 2018 Acura MDX with Technology, Advance or Entertainment Packages
- 2018 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid with Advance Package (upon release)
As you can see, the remote start option is one that is typically seen in the Advance package for most Acura models, which makes it a top-of-the-line feature.

How to use remote engine start
You can start your Acura engine on models equipped with the appropriate package from up to 328 feet away. Here’s how you do it.
- Press the lock button
- Press and hold the engine button
You’ll know the system works when the amber light flashes on once when you lock your car, then blinks when you start the engine. A green light in the middle will flash once to indicate the vehicle has successfully started. A red light will blink if it fails, which can occur if your doors, hood or tailgate are not fully closed or the doors are not locked.
Remote engine start automatically heats or cools your vehicle to a preset 72 degrees, and when it’s cold the defrost function automatically is activated.
