Safety Features Included with 2017 Acura MDX AcuraWatch
In the past, the safety features that compose the AcuraWatch package have only been optional, but that all changes for the Acura MDX, as the 2017 model now comes standard with all of the safety features that the suite of features contains. Although the features come with no extra cost, it is still important to know what they are and what they are capable of, which is why we thought we would look closer at them all.
There are four safety features that make up the now-standard AcuraWatch package. The four include:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Road Departure Mitigation
To give you a better idea of what each system is capable of, let’s break down the features of each one.
Collision Mitigation Braking System
This is an advanced system that monitors the road ahead and that has the ability to step in if it senses that a collision may occur. After sending a visual and audible warning to the driver, the system is able to apply braking pressure all on its own. Though it may not stop the accident entirely, it helps minimize damage.
Lane Keeping Assist
When driving at night, or after a long period of time, you can switch into auto pilot and veer out of your lane with little to no effort at all. This system keeps an eye on the lane markers and lets you know when you are getting close to crossing them. It helps you to make sure that you always stay between the lines.
Adaptive Cruise Control
Cruise control is a nice convenience to have, but adaptive cruise control is even better, as it is able to speed up or slow down the vehicle based on the speed of the vehicle ahead. All you have to do is take care of the steering. Acceleration and deceleration are handled. It’s a great feature to have for traffic jams.
Road Departure Mitigation
If the vehicle detects that it is about to veer off of the road entirely, it can send out a warning to the driver to correct the steering. There is also a head-up warning for more advanced models. The system also uses the Lane Keeping Assist system to apply the brakes and steer the vehicle to keep it from leaving the road.
