Easy Way to Check Tire Tread with Just a Quarter
As you drive, the tread of your tires will slowly wear down. As the tread decreases, the tire’s ability to grip the road will begin to decrease as well. Therefore, it’s important to check the tread of your tires regularly to ensure that you will be able to accelerate, stop, and turn normally. So, how can you tell if you need new tires? Thankfully, you don’t need to be a car expert to know if you need to replace your tires. In fact, you can check the tread of your tires with a quarter right at home! Learn about the fast and easy quarter tire tread test at the Radley Acura blog!
How to Check Your Tires with the Quarter Tire Tread Test
- Grab a quarter and approach the tire you wish to check. Face the quarter so Washington’s head is facing you and is upside down.
- Place the quarter into the tread of your tire.
- See where the tread ends. If you can see the top of the president’s head, it’s time to replace the tire. If much of Washington’s head is covered, you still have a healthy amount of tread left.
- Repeat these steps for every tire. After all, you wouldn’t want any of the four tires to be low on tread.
