What Is AcuraWatch?
AcuraWatch is a bundle of active safety and driver-assistive features that share information from a forward-facing camera and a millimeter-wave radar. The camera reads lane lines, road signs, vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists, while the radar measures distance and closing speed to objects ahead while driving around Falls Church. Software then decides whether to warn the driver, gently steer, or apply braking. Think of it as a co-pilot that's always paying attention. Rather than replacing the driver, AcuraWatch works in the background, stepping in only when it detects a potential problem or when the driver activates features like adaptive cruise control.
Collision Mitigation Braking System and Forward Collision Warning
When the system detects a vehicle or pedestrian ahead and a collision appears imminent, it first alerts the driver with visual and audible warnings. If no corrective action is taken, it can automatically apply the brakes to reduce the severity of impact or avoid the collision altogether.
Lane Keeping Assist System and Lane Departure Warning
Lane Keeping Assist System helps keep the vehicle centered in its lane, while Lane Departure Warning alerts the driver when the vehicle begins drifting without a turn signal activated.
Road Departure Mitigation
This feature monitors the road edges and can apply steering torque and braking if it senses the vehicle is about to drift off the road entirely, which is useful on winding rural roads or in moments of driver inattention.
Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow
The system modulates the throttle and applies moderate braking to maintain a set following distance. If the vehicle in front slows to a stop, your Acura will do the same, and once traffic begins to move again, a simple tap on the throttle resumes the set speed.
Traffic Sign Recognition
The camera reads posted speed limits and other road signs, displaying them on the instrument cluster so the driver always has that information at a glance while heading to Big Chimneys Park.
What's New for 2026
For 2026, Acura widened the reach of its core AcuraWatch features. Blind Spot Information and Rear Cross-Traffic Monitoring are now standard across the board. There's also a new addition to Adaptive Cruise Control called Cornering Speed Assist, which automatically adjusts cruising speed when approaching a curve, helping drivers glide through turns more smoothly and with greater control. At the top of the lineup, the 2026 MDX Type S Advance gets AcuraWatch 360, which adds Active Lane Change Assist, Front Cross Traffic Warning, Lane Change Collision Mitigation, and Head-Up Warnings that flash alerts directly on the windshield.
