2019 Acura RDX Washington D.C.
It isn’t every day that a vehicle gets a complete redesign, and it isn’t every new generation that sees one as extensive as what we’re seeing for the 2019 Acura RDX. In fact, this will be the most extensive redesign for any model in the Acura lineup. As we prepare for the Acura RDX to head to our Washington D.C. area dealership, we’re learning more and more about new features and specs to be hyped over.
Though a chiseled and dynamic appearance is always a highlight, looks can be deceiving. This isn’t the case for the RDX, as it’s just as impressive to drive as it is to gaze upon. We’re talking new powertrain options and available SH-AWD.
What’s new for the 2019 Acura RDX?
There’s plenty that could be said about the 2019 Acura RDX, but the key highlights fall, naturally, on the mechanical upgrades. The V6 engine is replaced by a direct-injected turbocharged 4-cylinder that offers up to 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. This makes for an RDX that is both faster from a stop and has a smoother throttle response. Mated to this engine is a segment first, the 10-speed automatic transmission. This provides not only better fuel economy, but a smoother transition to make full use of the new turbocharged engine.
Though not standard, no summary of the updates to the RDX is complete without mentioning the Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive system. The model had this system in the first generation, but it entirely skipped the second. Finally, we’re seeing SH-AWD return for the popular SUV. The torque-vectoring system is a favorite because it can distribute up to 70% of system torque to the rear wheels or 100% to a single rear wheel to help with control and traction.
Another highlight that is more of a convenience than a necessity is the new Intuitive True Touchpad Interface. It’s a convenient touch system located near the gear shifter that allows you to control your infotainment system. This is an available feature, along with the advanced Acura ELS Studio 3D Audio, but we think it’s well-worth considering your package options.
